Marcel Wanders began making little sculptures in 2004. While he and his daughter Joy played with clay, he placed a couple of similar shapes side by side. The sculptures were quick to make, had a fun spontaneity and, of course, were all slightly different. They perfectly expressed Marcel Wanders’ quest for a more individual, emotional, and ‘humanist’ design. Marcel Wanders set himself the task of creating a piece in one minute, had them glazed and gold-plated, and presented them as One Minute Sculptures.
A bit later, he created the One Minute Plates using the same technique as the Sculptures. In this case, One Minute represents Marcel Wanders’ iconic painting technique with his two hands instead of a brush.
This technique is used for the One Minute Delft Blue Collection and the One Minute Mickey and Minnie.
