In a world dominated by minimalism and white walls, Marcel Wanders disrupts the dogma by investigating and disrupting surfaces, including wallpaper, tiles, textiles, and mosaics. Inspired by nature and geometric shapes, an extensive collection of applied mosaics (2004 -2015) for walls, sculptures, and furniture has been applied to restaurants, kitchens, corridors, and other spaces. In addition, other iconic designs include brightly coloured coffee tables (2004- 2012) that radiate life and joy in any room. Created and shaped to look like stones, these imaginative low tables feature flower patterns and are made with thousands of small hand-cut mosaics. They seem to be out of a fairytale that guests stumble upon, each with a woman’s name. Finally, Antelope (2004) is a surprising mosaique-clad car. Grabbing attention, this functional car results from the unexpected unexpected recycling of materials and concept enhancement.
“When thinking about our 15-year friendship and collaboration with Bisazza, the word that comes to mind is ‘surprising’. Bisazza’s affinity for beauty with just the right amount of innovation is in perfect alignment with our goal of uplifting the human spirit and bringing the human touch back to design. Together, we make the world less boring.” – Marcel Wanders
One of these new projects includes mosaic murals featuring beautiful roses and petals. Colourful and captivating, the surfaces are thoughtfully appointed with shades and depth, inviting passersby to imagine themselves in an oasis of flowers.
Also being launched is a new edition of the well-known project Pebbles. This collection was first introduced 20 years ago and continues as an imaginative group of low, brightly coloured coffee tables that radiate life and joy into any room. Now featuring four new finishes, two versions inspired by tonalities of red and two versions by tonalities of Delft Blue, the tables shaped like stones that feature thousands of small mosaics once again transform a room into a mystical place of beauty. Surprising in any space, they make guests feel like they have stumbled into a secret field.
