As part of the Barovier & Toso Light E-motion exhibition (2015), many hand-blown glass lights enhance traditional Murano glass-making methods. All icons in the exhibition showed embedded movements. Extra-large scenic hand-puppets danced to subtle music while classic chandeliers rotated as fragile ballerinas.
Distilled from this exhibition, The Perseus Collection (2016-to present) combines many glass elements. Resembling an explosion of glass, the chandelier comes alive with gracious movement. This collection is offered subversively with respect to the canons of classicism. Carefully balanced in volume and alternating different colours, this chandelier has a chrome frame with LED lighting supplied with suspension. On its turn, the Lust chandelier (2016) is an elegant design, revealing something precious protected inside the dome, where a piece of glass covered in gold leaf is discovered.
During Salone del Mobile 2019 in Milan, Marcel Wanders introduced a collection of chandeliers for Barovier&Toso, containing three different models that allow a total of six variations.
The Dutch design studio that has worked with Barovier&Toso for years has focused on an exceptional mixture of elements: on the one hand, the classic motifs of the Venetian glassmaking tradition, and on the other, the introduction of original forms derived from Marcel Wanders’ own design language and philosophy.
“Made with exquisite hand-blown Murano glass, the captivating Adonis chandelier is inspired by the shape of the tulip as an iconic symbol of Dutch culture. The design also reflects the Golden Age as it includes joyfully appointed butterflies – therefore the name Adonis – and petals that are revealed within the chandelier as little pendants while leaves emerge to embrace the lights.” – Marcel Wanders
